‘Tennis has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember, but tennis would never have played such a vital role in my development as a person had it not been for my father.

After being coached by him for 18 years, and watching him with other students over that time, I can honestly say that I’ve never seen a coach care about the person behind the player as much as my father does. The way the player feels takes precedent over everything else. I think that’s why he’s had so much success with his students over the years, and why 45 of them still have careers in tennis today.

I sacrificed many hours to play tennis well, but I have to remember, so did he. The tedious hours spent driving to tournaments, watching all of my matches, celebrating my wins, or consoling me through my losses. As I’ve got older, I’ve realized that I’ve never thanked him enough for everything he did in order for me to become the player, and most importantly, the person I am today. This testimonial is, I hope, a small way in which I can finally say thank you.’
